Budget issues and a shoot riddled with inclement weather, wildfires, and a chicken pox outbreak led to a negative hype machine that would result in financial failure.
Nonetheless, some reviews left a glimmer of hope. Charlie McCollum of the San Jose Mercury News wrote, "In the end, The Lone Ranger is one hot mess—an entertaining one, to be sure, but still a mess." However, Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle called the film "a jumbled botch that is so confused in its purpose and so charmless in its effect that it must be seen to be believed, but better yet, no. Don't see it, don't believe it." Despite Mick’s protestations, I think I’d like us to judge for ourselves. |
